Etsy Download Help

How to download your files

Thank you so much for your purchase! This page walks you through everything from the moment you paid to opening your files, plus answers to the most common questions.

How my digital products are delivered

My designs are high-resolution files, often over 300MB per bundle. Delivering them at that quality means using dedicated file hosting (my own site or Google Drive), which gives you a much faster, more reliable download than Etsy's built-in file attachment system.

Here's how it works. Etsy attaches a small PDF (under 250KB) to your order. That PDF contains a direct download link to your actual product files.

No accounts, no Google account, no Dropbox, no third-party sign-ups. Nothing to install. Just click the link, download, and enjoy.

Step 1. Get the PDF from Etsy

Etsy sends a confirmation email right after your purchase. It contains a direct link to your downloads.

You can also find your downloads any time by signing in to Etsy and going to your account:

  1. Sign in at etsy.com.
  2. Click You in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Purchases and Reviews from the menu.
  4. Find the order and click "Download Files".
  5. Save the PDF to your computer. Your Downloads folder is fine.

The PDF is very small, under 250KB. If your download appears to hang or times out, that's usually a browser or connection blip. Try again in a moment or switch to a different browser.

Step 2. Open the PDF

Double-click the PDF you saved. It will open in your default PDF reader.

You do not need Adobe Acrobat or any special software. Modern computers come with built-in PDF support:

  • Mac: Preview opens PDFs automatically.
  • Windows: Microsoft Edge is the default PDF handler.
  • Chromebook or tablet: Your browser or the built-in Files app handles it.

Inside the PDF you will see a big blue clickable link. Clicking that link starts the download of your actual product files.

Step 3. Click the download link

The link inside your PDF will go to one of two places depending on which product you bought. Either way the process is quick and no account is required.

If your link goes to Google Drive

  1. Click the link. It opens Google Drive in your browser.
  2. Because the zip file is large, Google may show a warning that says "Google Drive can't scan this file for viruses". Don't panic. This warning appears on every download over about 100MB and has nothing to do with the file being unsafe. Your file is safe. Click "Download anyway".
  3. Your zip downloads to your Downloads folder.
You do NOT need a Google account. You do not need to sign in to Google. You do not need to have Google Drive installed. The link is a public share link that works in any browser without any sign-in.

If your link goes to our site (download.thedigitaldesigndock.com)

  1. Click the link.
  2. Your zip downloads instantly. No warnings, no waiting, no interstitial screen.
No account required on our site either. The link works, that's the whole story.

Step 4. Open the zip

Your download is a zip file. That's a compressed container for the actual product files. Here's how to open it:

  • Windows: Find the zip in your Downloads folder. Right-click and choose "Extract All...". Windows will ask where to save the extracted folder. Pick a location you'll remember, then click Extract.
  • Mac: Find the zip in your Downloads folder and double-click it. Mac automatically extracts it into a folder next to the zip. That's it.
  • iPad or iPhone: Tap the zip in your Files app. iOS extracts it in place.

Inside the extracted folder you will find your JPGs, PNGs, or whatever the listing described. The files are ready to use.

What to expect inside your zip

Depending on which product you bought, the zip may contain:

  • JPG files for printed or web use, with a solid background.
  • PNG files with transparent backgrounds, ready to layer in design apps.
  • Fussy cut sheets as printable A4 or US Letter pages, ready to send to your printer.
  • Individual clipart as loose files for use in your own designs.

The listing description tells you exactly what you're getting. If you're unsure after opening the zip, email me and I'll help identify what's what.

Common questions

I clicked the link but nothing happened.

The link should open your web browser and start a download. If nothing happens, try:

  • Right-click the link and choose "Copy link", then paste it into a fresh browser tab.
  • Try a different browser. Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox all work fine.
  • Check that your PDF reader isn't blocking outgoing links. Some corporate or school-managed PDF readers do this.

If it still won't work, email me your order number and I'll send the file another way.

Google says "Can't scan this file for viruses". Is it safe?

Yes, completely. Google Drive can only virus-scan files under about 100MB. My product bundles are usually larger than that, so Google skips the scan and shows this warning on every download. The warning is not saying the file is unsafe. It's saying Google didn't scan it. Click "Download anyway" to proceed.

Do I need a Google account?

No. The download links are public share links. You can download without signing in to Google.

Do I need a Dropbox account?

No. I don't use Dropbox at all. If you see anything referring to Dropbox, it isn't from me.

The zip file won't open, or my computer says it's corrupted.

This usually means the download was interrupted partway through. Try downloading again from the same link. If the file still won't open after a fresh download, email me your order number and I'll send a fresh copy directly.

I can't find the file I downloaded.

Most browsers save downloads to your Downloads folder. On Windows, press the Windows key, type "Downloads", and press Enter. On Mac, open Finder and click "Downloads" in the sidebar. On mobile, check your browser's downloads list, usually a menu icon at the top of the browser.

The files won't open in Photoshop, Canva, Cricut, or my design app.

JPG and PNG files open in virtually every image or design app. If a specific file won't open, first make sure you've fully extracted the zip. Trying to open files while they're still inside the zip container often fails. Extract first, then open the loose file.

For Cricut Design Space specifically, use the PNG files rather than JPGs so you get transparent backgrounds. Upload as "Complex" if the machine asks.

Can I use these commercially?

Yes for most products. My commercial licence allows unlimited use on physical products you sell, with limits on redistribution. The full licence terms live in each listing's description. If you're planning something large-scale (thousands of units, brand assets, ad campaigns) please email me first and we'll sort out an extended licence.

I received a different file to what the listing described.

This shouldn't happen but occasionally does when I've made a labelling mistake. Please email me your order number and a screenshot of what you received, and I'll fix it straight away.

I lost my downloaded file. Can I download it again?

Yes. Etsy keeps your download link available in your Purchases and Reviews page for as long as your account is active. Sign back in, find the order, and download the PDF again. The link inside is the same one that always worked.

Do you offer refunds?

Because these are instant digital downloads, refunds aren't automatic. If something is genuinely wrong with the file (corrupted, mislabelled, missing) I'll always fix it or refund. Just email me. If you've changed your mind after downloading, please get in touch and we'll work something out.

Can I share the files with a friend?

Please no. My commercial licence is per-buyer. If a friend loves the designs, please send them the listing link and let them buy a copy. It helps keep my little shop going, and it means each buyer gets their own licence to use the files.

Still stuck? I'm here to help.

If your question isn't answered above, please email me and include your Etsy order number so I can look up your order.
